EMMAUS LANGEWEG

Organisation set up in 1984 and member of Emmaus International since 1987.

Eleven companions live and work at Emmaus Langeweg, which also has 80 volunteers. The companions live in an old monastery and carry out the traditional work of Emmaus communities: collecting, sorting, repairing and selling goods at low prices. Near the accommodation, the community has a second-hand shop and café which sells organic fruit juices and homemade cakes. The other second-hand shop is in Breda, 13km from Langeweg. A team of 45 volunteers help run the group. Every year, Emmaus Langeweg opens its doors to young people who have been convicted of minor offences, helping them get their lives back on track. The group also occasionally provides emergency accommodation for homeless people and helps them come up with long-term solutions. Lastly, Emmaus Langeweg supports voluntary organisations in India, and since 2014, in Romania.
