Sixty companions live and work at La Poudrière, which has three different sites. A community building and detached houses for the community’s families are located in Brussels. There's also a second-hand shop there which receives donations from the public, companies and the authorities.
The companions run another second-hand shop in Péruwelz. The two shops are supplied by a recycling centre in the region which collects waste electronic and electrical equipment. The community has a small farm on a third site in Rummen for the production of fruit, vegetables, meat and eggs. Some of the produce is used to feed the companions and some of it is sold – apples and apple juice for example, which helps the community bring in extra income.
La Poudrière is also keen to protect the environment – the community has installed solar panels and rainwater collection systems on its buildings.
